Printable Paper Model Of Snail - Folding DIY Template

This one is fairly popular model. I have seen someone making one. Mine is made based on a 3D scanning of a real snail. I like the shape of the snail's shell and tested how it would look if simplified to a low poly faceted model.

The parts turned out to be pretty simple so this is why I think it would be easy to made from kids as a family activity.

My approximation is that it won't take more than 1.5 hours to make including cutting the parts. To make it, you have to download the file and print it on 120 g/m2 A4 cardboard. The 16 parts are laid out on 4 pages.

The first two of the parts pages are the shell of the snail. You could print them on different color sheet if you want more interesting look.

The assembled size of the model is:

136 x 230 x 190 mm

or

5.35 x 9.06 x 5.08 in in

if printed on A4 sheets. If you have different size of sheet, just use the "fit to paper size" option on your PDF reader.

I have included a PDF file with just the parts, so you won't have to print the assembly tips.

It is up to you. The way the instructions are written the fold lines and edge IDs would be on the outside and visible. If you want them to end up inside just switch the directions of valley and mountain folds. All the "valley" folds become "mountain" and vise verse. That way you have to pot the glue on the upper side of the flaps too.

Nothing else needs to be changed.

This is a GREAT Snail pattern at a reasonable price point however there are some issues. SADLY the numbering is on the outside so unless you want to paint it you are going to see the numbers - it really don't like seeing the numbers. I also question the listing detail saying that it would be good for kids, I don't see this as beginner friendly as it requires a fair bit of dexterity to just get the shell on the body. Additionally there is no 'hole' in the bottom of the A3 pattern which is weird. I DO love my snails - they are very cool, I just feel sad looking at those numbers.
